By training local people, designing projects for NGO’s plus monitoring and assisting with existing programmes, Green Warriors are able to help rebuild this community from every angle. Their projects can include work in disaster zones or conflict stricken areas, remote communities that require additional support and even urban developments. Each with specific and differing requirements, but the Warriors approach them with a sustainable and long term attitude. Labelling themselves as sustainability specialists, they maintain their mission is to implement real solutions for the current climate crisis humanity is facing. Instead of purely relying on money, they work upon the thesis that change can only be truly forged by people and that this change shouldn’t just be undertaken by one person. The ethos of Green Warriors is of a community fighting for change.

Magashi

Magashi lives on Akagera National Park, six thousand exclusive use hectares located in the Northeast. Made up of six luxury tents, perched like little butterflies upon the shore of Lake Rwanyakazinga. As guests approach by boat, they’ll quickly ease into the camps secluded, intimate and very relaxed atmosphere. A far cry from the bustle of nearby capital Kigali. Matching the
Rwandan hospitality, Magashi has a warm and welcoming tone and interior with earthy tones. Magashi has hospitable, friendly and attentive staff on hand to help with any problem. Sharing traditional Kugisha supper, cattle herding and even sharing songs and stories are just some of the customs staff may offer. The National park is abundant with life and colour, home to lions, rhinos, gentle rolling hills and stunning expanses of open savannah. Elephants can be seen submerging in the silver-blue waters of lake Rwanyakazinga splashing about and raising their trunks in the air for all to see. Lions, leopards and black rhinos wander seamlessly over the plains and can be spotted from close distances.

Opportunities for boating in eight-seater swamp cruisers are available, which is a particularly unique and special way to view not only water birds but other aquatic animals. As Magashi is in the only private access area in Akagera, exclusive night game drives are available which take place in open four by four vehicles. Each open four by four vehicle accommodates a maximum of seven guests, which allows each individual an outside seat for optimal viewing!

For the keen bird watchers, Akagera National Park is renowned for being one of the best birding areas in the world, with over 500 species recorded in the area. Species that can be spotted on the plains include the Pennant-winged nightjar and the yellow throated longclaw which is known for its bright yellow colouring. As well as looking to the skies, the plains also offer wide varieties of mammals to observe including a healthy population of lion which were reintroduced to the park in 2015 following a twenty-year absence. Additionally the black rhino can be spotted moving about the plains. Expertly guided game drives are available to guests which include opportunities to see buffalo, elephant, giraffe, spotted hyaena, zebra, topi, roan, eland and the elusive leopard!

One&Only Nyungwe House

In the southwest of Rwanda, just to the south of the Lake Kivu and on the Burundi border is the One&Only Nyungwe House. Set amongst the tea plantations of Gisakura and on the edge of the stunning and expansive Nyungwe National Park. The National Park is made up of thousands of kilometres of rainforest, bamboo, swamps, grassland and bogs, it is one of the last mountain rainforest habitats on earth. Within the park there are 13 recorded different species of primate and all together the park makes up for 20% of all apes found in Africa. Nyungwe is a lush and diverse ecosystem and the habitat is known for being home to an impressively large population of chimpanzees and endangered monkeys such as the owl face monkey and golden monkey which are increasingly rare.

Nyungwe House allows guests the opportunity to discover Rwanda from the heart of the jungle and to live amongst the rainforest. Surrounded by dramatic mountain landscapes, draped with luscious greenery. Made up of five wooden villa clusters among the treetops, luxury rooms and suites. The accommodation available is a once in a lifetime opportunity to live among such exotic and breathtaking natural beauty. Guests can enjoy exquisite dining and selected beverages, alongside two signature resort experiences provided daily. Facilities within the hotel include a spa with a 3 day wellness itinerary available as well as facial treatments, physical therapy, fire rituals or Rwandan coffee and mint detox wrap. Other experiences include a myriad of activities such as private dining safaris, mountain biking, helicopter rides, hiking and the Canopy treetop walk. The Canopy walk is an awe-inspiring platform elevated between humongous trees and floating 60 metres above the forest floor. This protected jungle in Rwanda is home to incredible and exotic wildlife plus thousands of flora and fauna.

Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge

Situated just north of Kinigi Park in the Virunga Mountains in northwest Rwanda is Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge. A luxurious and high-quality camp made up of eight guest rooms and stylish en-suite bathrooms. The main lodge is spacious and inviting with dark wooden furnishings and chic modern colour palettes which complement the surrounding African landscapes. At the Silverback Lodge, spa treatments on offer include; deep tissue massage, terre blanche body mask, aromatherapy treatments, Afrique arising and classic Swedish massage. For evening entertainment SACOLA traditional dancers will perform in the lodge and the grounds, offering spectacular and unique music and dance alongside insights into their cultures and traditions. Trips are also available to visit the Buhanga Sacred forest which is of tremendous ecological import and offers views of breath-taking beauty. Guests can walk under the cover of majestic and immensely tall trees whilst being rewarded by promising sights of various birdlife and stunning, exotic and colourful butterflies. Many nearby mountains provide opportunities for hiking should guests be interested in such physical excursions. Mount Gahinga, Muhabura and Bisoke offer incredible views at their peak. Activities can also include mountain biking and visiting the Dian Fossey research camp. There is so much to explore at Sabyinyo Silverback lodge.

One&Only Gorilla's Nest

Go head to head with swaying eucalyptus trees and absorb the beauty of the rainforest from your own doorstep. One&Only Gorilla’s Nest is the nearest resort to Volcanoes National Park. This rainforest is historic and home to a varied and exotic tapestry of wildlife, including over 340 mountain gorillas, golden monkeys and over 300 differing species of birdlife. Through the heart of the resort is an incredible landscape of peaceful slumbering volcanoes that soar over the horizons, cultivating a magnificent atmosphere and an incredible setting, perfect for hikers and cyclists.

Gorilla’s Nest encourages a wild spirit of adventure, a place that encourages guests to confront the majestic mountain gorillas and experience the true narrative of Rwanda. At the forest king lodge, experience a smooth and seamless connection with the natural surroundings. From this romantic private lodge which is perfect for couples, embrace the open air and sweet scents of the rainforest as guests enjoy lounging on their open air deck or al fresco shower. ‘Designed to frame nature’ this resort magnifies its natural surroundings whilst maintaining a cool, calm and chic feel.

For the more active guests, revitalising treks or mountain biking sessions are available. Hiking through a misty bamboo forest, tracking endangered mountain gorillas and spot charming chimpanzees with the help of expert jungle guides. Afterwards guests can find themselves relaxing with a calming spa experience. Releasing any tension or muscle ache, the spa offers a 60 or 90 minute full body Intoga Amasatchi treatment. This is a deep tissue massage using hands or the traditional wooden sticks to free the body of any tightness and tension.

Guests can also dine at The Nest, whether it’s a rich, luxurious morning coffee, a romantic evening meal with a loved one or appreciating local and seasonal cuisine The Nest caters to it all. Menus change daily, keeping guests in suspense and ensuring a variety of foods will be tasted.

Singita Kwitonda Lodge

Located upon 178 acres of stunning landscape and bordering Volcanoes National Park is the impressive Singita Kwitonda Lodge. The National Park, where more than a third of earths remaining mountain gorillas reside, in high-altitude cloud forests. The lodge is designed with respect to its spectacular location and compliments the sceneries and nature, working with it not against it. Made up of eight luxurious suites and large living spaces. The lodge also features a private heated plunge pool and wellness treatment spa area. There are outdoor fireplaces and impressive timber framed windows that encourage and support the breath-taking volcanic surroundings. The lodge also encompasses features such as woven ceilings and hand-fired brickwork of terracotta colouring, crafted by local artists. The lodge also has a dedicated conservation room, nursery and vegetable garden onsite. This vegetable garden contributes fresh produce to the lodge. The Singita expertise is reflected in all aspects of the lodge, from the design to expert advice and guidance. Staff will even help plan personalised itineraries and tailored services for guests.

Singita guests can enjoy embarking on Gorilla trekking, as well as daily gikes to observe gorilla groups in their natural habitat. Guests can spend time experiencing the culture and community, honouring ancient traditions, enjoying gentle local guided walks, displays of traditional dance and even pottery making lessons. Guests also have the opportunity to sample the banana beer, which is locally brewed.
